The Top 5 Ways to Shoot Lower Golf Scores

There are lots of ways to improve your golf! But to shoot lower scores you need to know what are the most important parts of your game. Here are the top five ways to improve your scorecard, quickly!
1. A better short game.
Your short game doesn't have to be perfect! It just needs to be reasonably consistent. If you can practice chipping a couple of hours a week, that's usually enough to be tidier around the green. Short game includes; bunker play, chipping, pitching, and everything else within 100 yards. This will give you a better chance to make birdies and recover for par more often. I know that my short game, is probably my second most valuable tool.
2. Mental Game.
The mental game is difficult to work on. However, it is the main reason we shoot the scores we do. A lot of golfers become stuck shooting around a certain score. I guarantee your skill level is better than your average score. Fear, self doubt and a lack of trust in their is something most golfers fall into the trap of. At the end of the day you're only walking around a golf course, what's to be scared of. I often hear the would struggle. Struggle should never be a word attached to golf, golf is never a struggle, it's a game, a very enjoyable one!
3. Straighter tee shots
If you hit more fairways off the tee, hitting more greens and sinking putts is much, much easier. Also, you won't waste shots hitting the golf ball out of bounds and into ponds. The route cause of poor tee shots is usually bad aiming and swinging too hard. It's really important to aim and align your body at your target, then focus on a nice smooth tempo to a full finish.
4. No more three putts.
A couple of hours a week on long putts and three foot putts will sort this problem. You don't necessarily need to spend days and days on the putting green. Really focus on speed and staring your ball online to the hole. A solid setup is important for consistent strike and roll.
5. Better course management.
Unless your Bubba Watson or Tiger Woods, you'll find the most benefit from playing the golf course very conservatively. To do this you need to play the percentages. I often ask myself, "Which club do I need to hit off of this tee to make sure the ball finishes in play, and I still have a comfortable distance to the green?" Often I hit a lot more 3 woods and hybrids off the tee than most people, but I also make more pars and birdies and very rarely a double bogey. The reason for this is that most of the time the hazards don't come into play. It's easy to fall into the trap of over thinking the golf course. The best thing is just to play with as much common sense as possible!
They are the five best ways to lower your golf scores quickly. The main idea I'm trying to get across is to be more professional, being more professional isn't about clothing, status or equipment, but actually your mind!
