Golfers want to improve their swing, and video analysis is one option. Up until a few years ago, it was very expensive and you had to go to a facility like golf tec to get it done. Now with cell phones having cameras, as well as flip cameras, it's inexpensive and easy to shoot and upload a video of your golf swing.
There are some free software programs you can use, but most of them are clunky, not easy to use, and can frustrate the heck out of you.
All you need is to film your swing from 2 different angles, upload to YouTube or Dropbox, and get it analyzed by a qualified instructor or biomechanic professional. A 2nd grader can do it, so anyone can.
The benefit of video is it doesn't lie. What you may feel, or think you are doing, can be completely different when you see it on camera. It will blow you away, but it will encourage you to improve.
You shouldn't get too obsessed with filming your swing, as golf is like that. When you get to the course, you play on instinct. You don't think technique on the golf course.
So getting camcorder, minidvd, flip or using your iPhone, you just take 2 minutes out of your practice session, and shoot one from down the line, and one from face on. Those are the 2 only views you need to show you what is going on with your swing.
One interesting study is that even with all the technology, golfers are not getting better. Their handicaps are not going down. Why is that? I can tell you it's a combination of things, starting with fitness level (strength and flexibility); as well as not getting to the root cause of your fault. Your mishit.
Many instructors don't take the time to dig a little deeper, and give you a "band-aid" fix that, at best, is only temporary and won't improve your swing for the long term.
Video allows you to get to the root cause in a matter of seconds. Way faster, and more efficient than the human eye. When you can shoot video, then play it back slow motion, or frame-by-frame, you can see any flaw plane as day.
Even if you don't have something to shoot the video with, a flip camera is under $100. And this is a one-time purchase to help you improve your golf swing. No biggy!
