Develop Weapons: Drive Your Golf Ball Farther

You step onto the 10th hole with your driver, it's a par 5 that looks reachable in two. Problem is you haven't been hitting the golf ball far enough to get home on the next shot.
I'm sure you've heard people say that hitting the golf ball far is overrated. Their advice is overrated because hitting the golf ball further makes a huge difference in your scores. Let's show you how to get it done!
Footwork
The most overlooked and misunderstood aspect of your golf game is your feet. Many high handicap players approach the ball with their toes pointed right at the ball. That's what it looks like on television so why not do it? In actuality, that's not what tour pros do with their toes. They actually point them open or flare them out. Why? By doing so it helps them make a bigger turn away from the ball. A bigger turn away from the ball creates a bigger arc. More arc creates more club head speed which hits the ball further.
Shaping Shots
The Holy Grail of golf is to hit the ball straight all the time right? Wrong! Have you ever asked yourself why tour pros like to shape their shots? There are two reasons why. One they develop predictable shot patterns that are easier to repeat. Second shaping shots can add extra roll to your drives. Who can't use a little extra roll once the ball hits the ground.
Widen Stance
I bet your thinking, "Don't I need to swing harder to hit it farther?" Yes you do. However, if you swing too hard with too narrow a stance you'll end up being a mess off the tee. Widen your stance out past shoulder width. This will lower your center of gravity and hands but also give you a more stable foundation. Now you can wind up and swing for the fences.
The last aspect of hitting bigger drives is choosing your spots carefully. Don't get scared, just put yourself in situations you feel more comfortable with. If you step up to the tee box and find yourself staring at a wide open fairway, go after it! However, if you see a lot of water or out of bounds you can reach, pick another battle. You don't need to step up to the ball second guessing yourself. All you need to do is think about creating as much speed through the ball as possible.
