It is very important to understand WHY you slice the golf ball. Once you understand the key parts of the golf swing that prevent a slice then your golf game climbs to the next level. The distance that you hit the golf ball will move to the next level. Your confidence will go to the next level.
Now I am going to give the a clean and simple way to STOP slicing. If you follow the instructions there is every chance that for the rest of your golfing career you will never hit a slice again.
The main reason that golfers can't stop slicing the ball is due to excessive movements of the upper body and a poor set-up.
Firstly, your set-up needs to be neutral in order to hit the golf ball straight. Your legs should be very slightly bent. Your back needs to be around 45* and you need to feel as if you're 'tall', your spine is lengthened. No hunching! Otherwise you have failed before you've even begun. Let your arms hang down below your chin with your right elbow slightly flexed. (right-handed golfer). Ideally the right forearm should be an extension of the club. Weight on the balls of your feet... and hips level with the ground. Finally the most important distance key is to have your spine tilted slightly behind the golf ball.
Pay attention, this bits important...
If you feel like your left shoulder moves 'over' the golf ball then you defiantly suffer from 'the slice'. You need to make sure that your shoulder stays back and moves down to the golf ball. By far the easiest way to do this is to keep your back facing the target for as long as possible, while you let your hands 'drop' down onto the golf ball.
If this movement is difficult for you to accomplish then you really need to think about stretching exercises. The muscles you will need to focus on will be: the hip joints, the thoracic spine, the shoulder muscles, and the hamstrings. This will improve your rotation.
Now this move will take some practice. The key is to be persistent to crack this movement, you body will be so used to moving 'over-the-top' that this is going to feel alien. In reality the movement is only a few inches different, but your body is very sensitive to these movements. You may feel like you are losing power... but actually it is increasing. Your club head will now accelerate just before impact. Rather than right from the top of your swing.
Now this is the same move that tour players focus on, as it will keep the ball starting out on a neutral flight or a slight draw. When you hear about players finding 'the slot', well this is exactly what the slot is. When you hear about players with good timing... this is exactly what they're talking about.
The best way to practice this is to use a camera or in front of the mirror. You then get instant feedback.
