Golf Bag Selection

Golf bags are an integral part of any golfer's repertoire and need to be discussed at length. Many bags have legs that come out when the bag is tilted over allowing the bag to have support so it doesn't fall to the ground. This is a very nice feature for those who normally carry their bags on the course. It sure beats bending down all the time and picking up all that weight, especially since most of us don't support our back correctly when we pick up heavy objects.
All the various bags have a large area for golf clubs. In some the area is one big space or compartment. Golf clubs can be placed in mass and will shift around as you move about the course. Some golfers like to use what is called tubes, which is a long narrow piece of tubing just big enough for the club shaft to fit into. You don't see these as often as you used to as many bags now come with that large area divided off into smaller compartments. Some even have the compartments separated from the top to the bottom of the bag which is really nice as it keeps your clubs totally separate from each other protecting the shafts and the grips.
Every golf bag out there has pockets that vary in size and location. The more the merrier when it comes to golf bag pockets. As you can imagine pockets are needed for plenty of golf balls. You may use small pockets for each of the different sizes of golf tees you like to use. Use a pocket for ball markers, green repair tools commonly called divot tools and even golf pencils. Keep your course GPS in a pocket so you don't forget it when you head out the door. Don't forget the rules of golf to win those debates with your golfing buddies. There are pockets for a water bottle, towels, etc. Also the bag cover should fit nicely in a pocket.
For those of you who carry your golf bag weight is a very important consideration. By the time you add 14 clubs and a couple dozen balls and all the other accessories, your bag can weigh several pounds. So you need to take into consideration the weight of the bag when selecting the right bag for you. The lighter the better, but don't neglect durability.
Technology is not just for golf clubs and balls. There are bags now sitting on wheels that can be remote-controlled. It is a strange sight to see a golf bag motoring down the course apparently on its own accord. Who know what they'll come up with next? Pull carts are also readily available to put your bag on and pull around the course to your heart's delight and this is what I prefer. You don't get the exercise that you would by carrying the bag, but you do get more than riding in a cart so it's a good compromise for me.
I guess the bottom line is don't be careless selecting your golf bag. It's a very important part of your golf game and should be carefully chosen just for you. Take pride in it and it will take care of your equipment.
