Sports in general have had many amazing athletes that come and go. Most professional athletes are successful within their own world and after they leave have no impact on society and the game they have played. Tiger Woods at a very young age brought passion and a wheel to winning that stayed with him throughout his life. He along with his father, were able to create an individual that had the ability to dominate the game of golf at such a young age.
Tiger started playing at age 2 and immediately eyes were watching him hit the ball solidly with a beautiful swing. As time went on Tiger continued to play the game with his father Earl and began playing competitively. By age 8 he won the Junior World Golf Championships by record margins and won a record 6 junior world titles. As he continued to mature his father would send him to tournaments all over the country. Tiger was then able to play in the US Junior Amateur, which is regarded as the biggest junior tournament in the world. Tiger cruised in this tournament beating all his opponents with ease. At age 15 and became the youngest ever to win the championship. He would go on and win this title a record three times in a row breaking any record by any junior golfer.
Tiger started receiving letters from numerous colleges and decided to go attend Stanford and 18 years old. When he arrived at the campus players on the team knew just how high profile this kid was, he was the biggest recruit to ever attend the university. As a tradition on the Stanford team each freshman must carry the bags of the upper class man and of course Tiger wasn't to thrilled. So Tiger had a meeting with the players on is team and told them that if he beat them in the tournaments he would never have to carry their bags again. They all agreed of course, and Tiger ended up winning the first three events he played in by a wide margin. He would never carry another bag again and was named to the first team All American team. Already the young man of only eighteen years old was making quite the impression with people and players all over the country.
In the summer after his first year of college, Tiger was going to TPC Sawgrass to play in the US Amateur. Throughout the entire tournament he was down in every single match. With his determination and focus was able to come back and win every match he played in. When he got to the finals he was playing Trip Kehne. The finals are 36 holes and after the first 18 he was 5 down. Tiger started making the putts he needed to and as the second 18 holes progressed he was able to get the match all even with two holes to play. Tiger eventually makes a beautiful 25 foot birdie putt and was able to take the lead for the first time all day leaving him one stroke ahead coming into the final hole. Tiger was able to come down eighteen and make par clinching his first US Amateur title and becoming the youngest to do so at 18 years old.
Tiger was taught at a very young age that controlling your mind and being patient will bring success. His father instilled the winning instinct into his mind and was able to create the greatest champion golf has ever seen. With the golfing world at his finger tips it will be very exciting to see how Tiger evolves and how he changes the game globally.
