Well the signs have been around for sometime but it has finally come to pass that even golf is on the decline! The rounds in the game have taken a decline because of many reasons.
Most people feel that golf takes too long and is therefore is not accessible to a lot of people. I have held that view myself in the past! Golfers are not too happy with this trend. It does make no sense to try to shorten the game. That, in my opinion, would be akin to trying to change the game itself.
There are flaws in the game but these are minor blips which are part and parcel of every game. Every game has different facets that make the game what it is and I can't say golf is any different.
So what can we do to improve the game in general? While many people have many different opinions on this I think the best way to go about it is to have at least a wider audience of people who have their own handicaps. Having a handicap shows a commitment to the game in general.
Even though many people would not agree with this opinion but the game does require a certain amount of professionalism on the part of the players. I'm not suggesting we all will be great at the game from the start. Apart from an undeniable love of the game most people have little else to show but that is again not something you need to worry about. After all if you're having fun then does it matter? You might just end up surprising yourself after all.
Moreover, like many aficionados out there, I think golf ought to be played without the use of golf carts. Now people believe that this is the way the game ought to have been played and I agree but from what I have seen golf carts do not seem to improve the speed of the game. They just make you lazy so you tend to take more time than necessary.
More structure and smoother transition of the game is what makes the game the incredibly fun game it is. Golf Associations need to take into account this fact in designing a system that allows the progress of everyone's game in a smooth manner. The management of the game thus has to be in such a manner that allows for the above. I hope that the above does provide for some food for thought!
